To no one’s surprise, the Most Outstanding Player Award goes to UCF’s dynamic shooting guard, Jermaine Taylor, who led the conference in scoring with a 26.6 ppg. average, setting a new C-USA record.   Full Story

The Memphis Tigers continue to flex their muscles, as they stay perfect in conference and are the hottest team in the nation with 19 consecutive wins. Rice and Marshall both recorded their first conference road victories of the season, as Rice overcame a record-setting performance by the great Jermaine Taylor. Another week has gone by in the C-USA and what else is new, Memphis is undefeated. John Calipari’s Tigers are playing stifling defense and some close early season contests have turned into blowouts. After nearly topping Memphis last week, the UCF men’s basketball team could not defeat another one of Conference USA’s best squads Tuesday as UAB rallied for a 60-52 win over the Knights at Bartow Arena. IRVING, Texas – Coming off an appearance in the 2008 NCAA National Championship title game and an NCAA-record 38 wins, the Memphis Tigers repeat as the unanimous pre-season favorite to win the C-USA men’s basketball regular-season crown in 2008-09, according to the league’s coaches. Huntington natives O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker were both selected in the June 26 NBA Draft, but neither of the long-time friends and teammates stayed very long with the team that selected them. Mayo, who helped Huntington High to a third-straight championship in 2006-07 before moving on to USC, was picked third by the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Walker was picked 47th by the Washington Wizards.   Full Story

Marshall had some travel problems getting to Birmingham on Friday for Saturday's game with UAB in Alabama, but not as many problems as the Herd had scoring in the game at Bartow Arena. The Blazers jumped out to a 13-0 lead that was eventually as large as 23-5 in the first half and cruised to a 74-55 win over Marshall. The Herd is 1-7 away from Huntington this year, while UAB is 10-0 at home.   Full Story
